Gardener Arrested in Connection with Psychiatrist's Murder in La Plata

La Plata, November 25 (NA) -- A man who worked as a gardener was arrested this Tuesday for his alleged involvement in the murder of psychiatrist Virginia Franco, ten days ago, at her home in the City Bell locality, on the outskirts of this capital. As part of an operation carried out by the La Plata DDI, requested by prosecutor Alvaro Garganta, the subject was arrested in a settlement in Quilmes while trying to escape to Tucumán; in fact, he had tickets in his possession to travel to that province. The man is Javir Echeverguren, 38, who worked as a gardener on the victim's property. She was stabbed multiple times, with the fatal blow to the neck, although she also had cuts on her eyelids, chin, and hands, according to the autopsy report accessed by the Noticias Argentinas agency. According to investigators' initial estimates, the woman, 65, may have discovered that the young man had stolen some of her belongings, and that was the motive that led to the murder of the psychiatrist, a recognized professional in the La Plata area and its surroundings. Furthermore, Echeverguren's movements were recorded by the neighborhood's security cameras, carrying a backpack and riding a bicycle, which he would also have stolen from the woman's home, located on Cantilo street, between 15A and 17. The young man had been working there for a short time, after taking over the client list from another gardener who had recently left. At the beginning of the investigation, another man, Pablo B., who identified himself as a friend of the deceased, had been detained; he found the body on November 15 and then alerted the police. Finally, after making a statement to the authorities, he was released.
